Reception Honoring Texas Poet Laureate and Prominent Author Dr. Jenny Lind Porter-Scott

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, the Cuero Cultural and Heritage Foundation, and the Cuero Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture invited the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony opening the very special exhibit "Photographs and Paragraphs - The Images of I.N. Hall, The Imagery of O. Henry," as prepared by the Institute of Texan Cultures. The opening ceremony took place Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at Cuero Heritage Museum.

A reception honoring Dr. Jenny Lind Porter Scott was held 4 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon at the home Dr. Ivy and Sandy Ramirez at 218 Terrell St. in Cuero. Dr. Jenny Lind Porter Scott is the author of "O. Henry, Witter Bynner, And 'A Fog in Santone.'"

After the reception, there was a lecture by Dr. Jenny Lind Porter Scott at Cuero State Bank in the Community Room starting at 5:30 in the afternoon. Dr. Scott, O. Henry's niece, lectured about his life and literary work in Texas between 1886 and 1900. Dr. Porter was available to autograph copies of her book following the lecture.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, the words of O. Henry deserve the best pictures. The paragraphs he wrote from his memories of life in southwest Texas find their equal in the photographs of I.N. Hall, artistic photographer of Cotulla, Texas. While O. Henry and I.N. Hall both applied their talents in the same area of Texas during the late 1800's, the two men never met.

The Institute of Texan Cultures, part of the University of Texas at San Antonio, fabricated and displayed the exhibit earlier this year and agreed to lease it to the sponsoring Cuero organizations for five months.
