Cuero Nursing Center Exhibit
"This Contest for Real Hands: Rodeo Photos of the 1930s"
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum presented a program March 11 at the
Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to celebrate the center's Texas
Heritage Days. The program concerned the history of rodeos and featured
Katie Doell's rodeo memorabilia and music. Old western photographs on
loan from Bucky Sager were also on display as well as a photograph from
the 1930's of Hoot Gibson's Rodeo belonging to Billy Albrecht of Goliad.
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum recently sponsored an exhibit through
ExhibitsUSA and Texas Association of Museums on rodeo photographs from
the 30's by Otho Hartley that was displayed in Cuero State Bank. That
exhibit also featured Katie Doell's rodeo career.
After the brief presentation by CTHM board member Candy Glidden, the nursing
home staff served chili and drinks to the residents while they all enjoyed
music by Katie Doell. The program ended with the residents singing "Home on
the Range," "You Are My Sunshine" and other cowboy favorites.
