The Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Former Knights of Pythias Hall, Jewel Lodge, No. 103 for the Purpose of Establishing the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum

Phase Two:

This phase involved the restoration of the two primary facades. On the South façade, the brick wall was completely cleaned and wooden garage door on the SW corner was replaced with an original pair of doors and arched fan light.

The most notable benefit of the CTHM Phase Two Restoration was the removal of nearly 100 years of paint on the East (front) façade. Other East façade restoration features include: The aluminum door was removed and the original wood doors were returned to their original frame. Also on the East façade, the overhead garage door was removed and both a door and a window were restored in the original opening. The window matches the adjacent original windows, complete with wood raised panel below and transom above. The restored double doors also match the original doors with a glass view panel with a transom window above the doors. The restored double doors and window assembly will become the new entry for the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum.

Four small brick finial details that were missing on the parapet wall (which can be observed in historic photographs) were restored to their original design. In addition, the handsome, original copper Knights of Pythias emblem was replicated and placed in the center position on the parapet wall. One of the cast iron canopy columns, removed to accommodate the overhead garage door many years ago) was also replicated and restored.

The Second Floor railing on the canopy (added in later years after the building was constructed) was permanently removed. Accompanying photos show the fine workmanship by A-Tex Construction, Austin.
